The eLaser programme provides doctors, nurses, therapists and other clinicians with access to core training on the safe use of lasers and other forms of optical radiation including Intense Pulsed Lights (IPL). It has been developed by the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) in partnership with Health Education England.

Learners complete formal assessment tests at the end of the programme. All users who achieve the pass standard are awarded a BAPRAS-endorsed certificate. The training meets the ‘Core of Knowledge’ standards set by the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

  • How to manage the equipment, including how to set up and check devices before use
  • Identifying the appropriate personal protection equipment for each system
  • The steps to take to ensure safe delivery of a treatment
  • Actions to be taken in the event of an emergency, untoward event or ‘near miss’
